THIS year’s World Cup is going crypto crazy with the news that James Rodriguez has become the first football superstar to cash in with his own Cryptocurrency.
The famous football star and social media influencer announced through a video message the public sale of his own cryptocurrency on June 12 on a blockchain-powered mobile app developed by fintech company SELFSELL.
The World Cup kicks off two days later in Russia.
During the last World Cup, the young player scored in all of his games with six goals in total, making him the first player since Ronaldo in 2002 to score more than five goals at a World Cup.
Now playing for the Bayern Munich, the millennial says he wants a new type of relationship with all the fans supporting him.
The Colombian football star delivered the message through a video recorded during the speech of the SELFSELL Founder & CEO, Li Yuan, at the 2018 Blockshow in Berlin.
He launched the JR10 Token, the first cryptocurrency launched by a football player on active duty, aimed as building “stronger fan relations and create new growth driven power for global sport market”.
Rodriquez describes it as “a super cool trial” to launch a token branded with his own name.
“I have been running on the field all the time, and now I have come to a new field and brought everyone a brand new me,” he said.
According to Li, JR10 Token has great potential.
A pre-sale of 50,000,000 JR10 tokens on SELFSELL app sold out in 12 seconds.
The token is planned to be used for exchange of match tickets, souvenirs, and merchandise made exclusively for them as well as the opportunities to participate in the footballer’s fan club activities.
8% of the JR10 Token tokens will be issued to James’ fans free of charge, which equals 160 million tokens, to create a rapidly growing JR10 fans community.
Superstar Token can be bought on the SELFSELL application only.
